Things To Know
First, is your iTunes up to date? If it isn’t, update it now. In most cases, when you open iTunes it will automatically prompt you to download the latest version. If it doesn’t, it means you have the latest version already installed. You can always check if your version of iTunes is up to date by going to the Help tab of iTunes and selecting Check for Updates. If you don’t have iTunes yet, just go here to download it along with the latest version.
Next important thing to know is that in order to do this, you need to use the iTunes library your iPhone is currently synced with. Attempting to do this with a different iTunes library will require you to sync it to that specific library – which requires you to erase all data in your phone. That being said, don’t forget to back up your phone!
You can’t transfer music files to your phone per song so it’s advisable to put the songs you want to add in a playlist for a smooth and easy transfer. As for purchased music, you’ll have to authorize your computer first before being able to transfer them to your phone. Just go to the Store tab on iTunes and select Authorize This Computer.
Connect your iPhone to your computer (obviously) and open iTunes. Allow your computer to trust your phone and have access to your data. Once your phone appears on iTunes, click it.
Go to the Summary bar then click the Options tab. Check Manually Manage Music and Videos. Click Apply.
Go to the File tab of iTunes and select Add File to Library… or you can use the shortcut which is Ctrl + O for both Mac and Windows users. Select the desired file/playlist and click Sync Music. You have the option of syncing your entire music library or specific playlists so this choice is entirely up to you.
All you have to do is wait for the sync to finish and you’re done! Have a great day and enjoy jamming to your favorite tunes!
