Getting a crack on your iPhone screen is incredibly frustrating, but it can be even more of a pain once you know how much some tech services charge to replace it.
Fortunately, you can take matters into your own hands if you learn how to repair cracked iPhone screen. You will need to buy a replacement display, but this can be done at a portion of the cost of what you will be charged if you pay for a repair service.
In this article we will explain about how to fix your iPhone screen once it is cracked with step by step instructions. Read on to learn about repair procedures and where you can pick up a new iPhone screen for cheap.
Step 1 – Purchase the Screen
The first step to fix your iPhone screen is obviously to purchase a replacement. Make sure that before you buy you ensure you are ready to go through with the repair process – you do not want to purchase a screen and then back out later.
There a few options out there, but we would suggest using the full LCD screen replacement from Amazon. It can be picked up for just over $20, which is a fraction of the cost of what repair services will state their screens cost.
Step 2 – Obtain the Repair Tools
You will need a certain set of screwdrivers to get into the iPhone to remove and replace the screen. The most important screwdriver that many do not have lying around is the star shaped driver, which can be picked up relatively cheaply at any hardware store.
You may also want to use a few thin tools to pry open the iPhone gently, such as a guitar pick or a nail file. We’d also suggest picking up a suction pad – this can be used to remove the screen safely from the iPhone casing.
Step 3 – Screws from Lighting Port
Remove the two screws from the Lighting port with the star screwdriver.
Step 4 – Remove the Display
With the screws removed, firmly press the suction cup onto the iPhone display and then pull the suction cup away from the device – this will ease the display out of place.
The display should bend upwards until it is in a near vertical position, stop bending it past around 70-80 degrees – don’t bend it more than 90 degrees to avoid causing any breakages.
Step 5 – Remove the Metal plate
You will need to undo three standard screws to remove a metal plate – this will reveal the connector cables. Carefully nudge the metal plate to the left once the screws are removed to take it out of position.
Step 6 – Remove the Connector Cables
Now that the metal plate is removed, you will be able to see the connector cables. Use a flat, thin object to gently pry each cable off of the device – there are three cables and they are stacked on top of each other.
Step 7 – Put the Old Screen to the Side
Now that the connector cables are removed, you will be able to move the old screen to the side.
Step 8 – Add the New Screen
Now that the old screen is removed, you can add the new one. To do this, line up the new display perpendicular to the device at a 90 degree angle. Use the connector cables on the new display and connect them in reverse order.
It can take some time to line up the connectors correctly, but it does not require any force.
Step 9 – Re-attach the Metal Plate
Now that the connector cables are connected, re-attach the metal plate. After that, you can place the display back into the device and re-screw it using the star shaped screwdriver.
